About Anneliese

What inspired you to become an OT?

I have always known that I want to work with kids and specifically support them in a way that is tailored to them in areas that they find challenging. When I heard about Occupational Therapy (thanks to my Mum), I loved the fact that this job gave me the opportunity to work one on one with kids and their families to explore how to support them in the best way possible. I love that I get to see my clients weekly or fortnightly and that I get to create a relationship and work on what is meaningful and important to them.

Who do you like to work with?

I have loved getting the opportunity to work in a range of areas during my university degree. However, I have always known and still know that I love working with all different types of kids. I love that I am able to take a play-based approach to my session and explore what is unique about and motivates the child to allow them to reach their goals.

What is one of your greatest achievements:

Getting through my Occupational Therapy degree. Going into university, especially during a pandemic, made it very hard for me to know if the degree was the right fit for me. But when I got the opportunity to do larger blocks of placement later in my degree, I knew immediately that this is what I wanted to be, and it gave me the motivation to complete my degree and get to where I am today!

I love movement-based games such as playing on the swing, creating an obstacle course or playing the floor is lava. I also love incorporating pretend play into my sessions and making my sessions play-based and fun!

In my spare time I like to go on hikes, camping or spending the day up the mountains or at the beach. I also love spending time with my family and friends and going out to eat at cute cafes.
