Responsibilities:
- Deliver therapy activities under the direction and guidance of Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists.
- Support children to participate in individual and group therapy activities and work towards their therapy goals.
- Prepare therapy resources, activities and the clinic environment.
- Assist with implementing therapy programs and strategies developed by the treating clinician.
- Complete relevant session documentation and communicate observations and progress to the treating therapist.
- Work collaboratively with therapists and the wider NSPOT team.

Brooke – Occupational Therapist
I completed my 4th-year OT placement at NSPOT in 2024. Through observing sessions and reflecting with my supervisor, I learnt so much about sensory processing and SOS feeding. NSPOT helped fill the gaps that university didn’t cover in the paediatrics unit. The team was incredibly supportive and collaborative, and the clients and families were so welcoming. Joining the team as a new graduate was a smooth transition thanks to my placement experience.

I completed my final paediatric placement at NSPOT in 2024. Having never experienced a private clinic setting before, I wasn’t sure what to expect and admittedly, stepping into a new environment with limited knowledge was daunting. However, the guidance and support I received from both my clinical educators and the wider NSPOT team were invaluable.
Each day presented new learning opportunities, many of which I hadn’t anticipated but found incredibly enriching. As my final paediatric placement, it significantly contributed to my growth and confidence as a clinician.
Being a student at NSPOT also made the transition into the team much smoother when I later joined as a staff member.

I had the privilege of completing one of my fourth-year OT placements at NSPOT, and it was truly a turning point in my professional journey. From the very beginning, I felt genuinely supported by both my clinical supervisor and the wider team. The placement environment provided many learning opportunities, and I was encouraged to step outside of my comfort zone while being guided every step of the way.
During my time at NSPOT, my confidence in working with children and families grew immensely. I had the chance to apply and expand my knowledge in areas such as sensory processing, play-based therapy, cognitive development, and school readiness. I was encouraged to reflect on my practice and develop strong clinical reasoning skills, which have formed the foundation of the therapist I am today.
Starting as a new graduate at NSPOT felt like a natural next step. With continued mentoring and the support of a nurturing team, I’ve been able to grow not just in skill, but in confidence and creativity as a therapist. Now, it’s a privilege to be in a position where I can support the next generation of OT students, just as I was once supported.
Richa – Speech Pathologist
I completed my first paediatric Speech Pathology placement at NSPOT at the end of 2022, and it was an incredibly positive and formative experience. As a student, I felt supported every step of the way – no question was ever too silly, and every team member was generous with their time, knowledge, and encouragement. The culture at NSPOT felt genuine, warm, and collaborative, and I was exposed to learning opportunities that helped bridge the gap between university theory and real-world clinical practice.
During placement, I gained valuable insight into areas that weren’t covered in the same depth at university, such as Gestalt Language Processing, literacy intervention, and the DIR framework. Feedback was always tailored, respectful, and constructive—I was asked about my preferred style early on, and it was honoured throughout the experience. I left feeling not only more confident, but genuinely excited about working in paediatrics.
In July 2023, I returned to NSPOT as a Therapy Assistant, and in 2024, I stepped into my role as a new graduate Speech Pathologist. Throughout this journey, mentoring has continued to be prioritised and scheduled, ensuring there is always space to reflect, ask questions, and continue learning. From the beginning of the new grad role, my caseload was built up gradually, so I had time to adjust to the demands of clinical work. There was also extensive onboarding across both Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy, which gave me a deeper understanding of interdisciplinary practice and prepared me well for a range of client needs.
Whether as a student, TA, or therapist, I’ve always felt supported. Being part of the NSPOT team has shaped the clinician I am today. It’s a place that truly invests in its people, celebrates learning, and encourages growth at every stage.
