We’ve had the most amazing year here at Nepean Speech and Occupational Therapy!
The year started with our vision of providing quality Occupational Therapy services finally becoming a reality. Many of our existing clients were very quick to take up the opportunity to have their children see our new OT Ashleigh, to help them with disorders such as organisation, sensory processing and regulation.
Joint speech and OT sessions increased in frequency, with amazing results occurring as many therapy goals were accelerated with this dual therapy approach.
One month into the year, we quickly realised that we had grown out of our beautiful rooms in the Broadwalk Arcade, and the search for new premises commenced.
It took a couple of months, but we eventually we found our new premises, just 100 metres away, on Tindale Street. The fitout and move was a herculean effort, many thanks to my sons Steven and Eric for running the project and giving us state of the art premises that want for nothing.
This year we were thrilled to be nominated as contenders for the Penrith Local Business awards, and we won! Winner of most outstanding Health Improvement service 2018! It was a validation of the amazing effort and quality work that our team deliver every day, to help our clients in the best way possible.
2019 also saw our team members virtually exploding with ideas for developing new groups and programs! They are so highly motivated and constantly thinking of new and better ways to help our clients. We are very excited to start rolling out our new groups and programs in 2019.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a condition that we are passionate about. It is very important to us that all of our team members are trained to use the most highly respected and successful evidence based training programs in the world, so that we can help our clients who have ASD. This year we hosted 2 Hanen “More Than Words” workshops to train speech pathologists from around Sydney to run and implement these programs. Our newest team members who were not yet trained in the “More Than Words” program accessed these workshops, ensuring that all of our speech pathologists were trained to deliver this program to our clients who have ASD.
We continued to forge ahead with our preschool and schools services, helping families with time restrictions that make it difficult to access speech and occupational therapy in our rooms.
Through the school holiday periods, we ran our highly successful social skills and literacy groups. Post – group evaluations always ensure that the content and quality of the groups remain second to none.
November saw two of our team members accessing comprehensive training to help infants who have feeding disorders. We look forward to offering this unique service in 2019.
In December, we were able to achieve our mission of providing Psychology services in our rooms, by partnering with the highly respected psychology practice, John Blythe Child Psychology. One of John’s team members will commence working with us at the start of February. This achieves our goal of becoming a wholistic, diagnostic practice, by offering speech therapy, occupational therapy and psychology all under the one roof.
In closing, I would like to thank each and everyone of my team members for the parts they played in helping NSPOT remain the highly respected practice that it is. Their passion, enthusiasm and love for their jobs is nothing short of ordinary, and the results speak for themselves. And not forgetting our wonderful clients, Schools, Preschool’s, doctors and other organisations that we are affiliated with. We are grateful for your loyalty and support, and look forward to continue working with you in 2019!
Enjoy the well deserved school holiday break!
